Our stance
We are not a general contractor, construction manager, project manager, jobsite supervisor, quality-control authority, or home inspection company. We do not provide licensed inspection, engineering, or architectural services. We help homeowners understand, compare, plan, and decide. Homeowners select and hire contractors directly, and contractors control and perform the work.
The View from Inside the Industry
The exterior building products industry is vast, complex, and overwhelmingly designed to sell to contractors, not homeowners. Neil brings more than 10 years of experience across the exterior building-products industry, including work with manufacturers, distributors, dealers, contractors, retail customers, and homeowners throughout Michigan. That experience gave him a firsthand view of how materials were chosen, how proposals were written, and where gaps in communication left homeowners vulnerable.
Contractors have a business to run. Their goal is to complete the job efficiently using the products they are comfortable with. But their goals aren't always perfectly aligned with the homeowner's long-term interests or aesthetic vision.

Big Lake Home Advisors was founded on a simple premise: homeowners deserve an expert sitting on their side of the table.
When you're preparing to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a roof, siding, or windows, you shouldn't have to rely entirely on the person selling you the job for advice. You need an independent, experienced guide who has nothing to gain from which product you choose or which contractor you hire.
Our Approach
We believe that clarity is the ultimate luxury. Our process is designed to strip away the confusion of contractor jargon, glossy marketing brochures, and high-pressure sales tactics.
- Objective Advisory Review: We visually review accessible exterior components and help prioritize what to address now versus what can wait.
- Empowered Decisions: We use your goals, assessment findings, photos, measurements, preferred materials and colors, priorities, phasing, and budget context to shape a useful concept and plan.
- Equal Footing: We help you level the playing field with contractors by translating their proposals into apples-to-apples comparisons.
The complimentary 30-minute Exterior Home Assessment is a standalone starting point. If deeper planning would help, Exterior Project Planning is a separate paid service that results in your Exterior Project Roadmap. Project Planning is for one focused exterior area, with an exact price confirmed after scope review. Bid & Proposal Review is a separate option for homeowners who already have bids; it does not require an assessment or Roadmap first. Homeowners choose only the services they need and select, hire, and contract directly with contractors; Big Lake does not direct, manage, or supervise construction. Renoworks may support concept visualization as an external design tool; images are uploaded manually, with no automation or direct integration implied.
